Carpooling and the Context it Works!

Nowadays, car buyers have grown by leaps and bounds. Actually, looking at the continuous increasing figure of car buyers, we need to be proud. Alas! On the contrary, we are feeling bad about this new found growth. Why? Because of the unwanted inhospitable consequences, these numbers are creating in our world. The exponentially increased pollution levels are forcing the climate viability of our society with respect to quality living toward the brink of failure. Recently, there are so many episodes across the geographies where due to smog and other bad weather reasons, people are unable to use streets, highways, or stay in their own houses without wearing pollution-free masks.

Understanding the reasons of this negative scenario, a few environment conscious people started carpooling. The concept is similar to public transport but the transportation vehicle is owned by a private party; even the vehicle is small compared to public transport. A few environment conscious people of certain societal stature and who do not want to travel using public transport started this carpooling concept. The concept works this way: 4/5 people who have to travel to a certain destination come together and decide to use only one transport instead of using 4/5 individual transports to reach the destination. This way, not only they reduce the pollution to a large extent but also share their commuting expenses (without sacrificing comfort) so that it will be light on every stakeholder’s pocket.

Now, the question is in which scenario does this carpooling works? Does it work across all geographies? What factors help carpooling grow further? Carpooling works to such an extent of time until all the committed stakeholders are readily-willing to sacrifice their personal interests for the sake of others, if required; otherwise, No. Whether it is paying shared expenses on time, readily available when the transport comes to their place to pick them up, etc., carpooling requires lot of punctuality and discipline to be maintained.

As per market analysts, wherever the following factors are present, carpooling demand will increase in future: lack of affordability of comfort-oriented cars, rising traffic jams, increased connectivity, and government automobile usage policies.
