Obedience to elders and people in higher hierarchy are
expected across all the societies. However, in certain situations and cultures,
they give lot of importance to obedience and every activity involves this
kowtowing. Because of this, to take any decision, either small or big, younger
generations are expected to take elders into confidence. After listening to youngsters
opinion, elders fine-comb the matter, go hindmost and check whether such kind
of decisions were taken any time in their history, and finally, let the youngsters
know their judgment. Most likely, the elders judgment is final and there is no
higher authority to revoke it. While the elder generations struggle to protect
what has been carried out so far, the younger generations try to wriggle out of
the shackles with what the elders has bonded them in the name of the tradition
or obedience.
Time goes and the current younger generation takes the
mandate from the older generation to carry out the tradition; but, these people
also finally end up being restrictive in their decisions and activities toward
the next generation. This process goes on…
In summary, what we see here is that time, age, and
responsibilities change people and their respective mindsets. As long as, you
are on the opposite side of the fence, you try to do and say whatever you want.
But, when the responsibility is given
and you are made accountable, you fall in line and exactly try to do what you
had resisted so far! SO, is this not parad…?
